George and Hannah Melius were probably farmers in
Darmstadt, Germany. In 1949, George and Hannah emigrated from Darmstadt, Germany to the United States with their 8 year old son, Philip Edwin Melius (born 01/14/1841), and probably with their 6 other children.
John and Caroline (Rapp) Kenner lived in nearby Stuttgart, Germany. They emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1852 with their 8 year old daughter Caroline Kenner (born 12/06/1844). One year later, in 1853, John and Caroline moved to Granville, Wisconsin (a Milwaukee suburbb no longer on the map).
In Granville, Wisconsin, on 01/14/1862) Philip Edwin Melius married Caroline Kenner; Philip and Caroline moved to Scott, Wisconsin in 1866. The couple had 9 children. Their son William Otto Melius was born on 12/03/1882.
William Otto Melius at about the age of 20 moved to north-central South Dakota and worked on local ranches and farms. About 1904-1907, he met Julia Arendsee, a country-school teacher in Edmunds County, South Dakota. William and Julia were married in Eau Clair, Wisconsin on 11/20/1907. They had their first 2 children in Eau Clair.
In spring 1911, William and Julia moved back to South Dakota when she was expecting her third child Vivian. They had 17 children from 1909 to 1930.
William Otto Melius died in 1967. Julia Arendsee Melius died in 1950. We continue their heritage.
